OK, my awesome son just turned 15! Where have the years gone? I’m sure they’re going to keep speeding past me at the speed of light. Each day is a precious gift with my kiddos. Nine years of homeschooling. Two more years left. Then, I need to decide what I’m going to do now that I’m a grown up…haha. Maybe more quilting, how about cake decorating? How about an antique/shabby chic store? Paint my house, recover my sofas, catch up on my scrapbooking…I think I have ADD!
OK, back to my project this past week. This is my Sackboy look-alike from Little Big Planet. My son would spend hours on this game if I let him. I adapted my pattern from this pattern. I changed a couple things: the mouth – I just stitched it instead of cutting out a separate mouth piece. I also added the zipper from a torn pair of jeans I had kept. (I keep all our jeans – I intend to cut out funky patches and make a quilt someday – add that to my list…) You can even unzip him and see his blue “shirt”. I don’t knit, but I wanted him to look knitted, so I went to the thrift store and had Taylor pick out a men’s sweater he liked the color of, so voila…knitted Sackboy! Now my daughter wants a pink “knitted” Sackgirl, and a friend of Taylor’s wants one too. She just needs to tell me what color. I might even enlarge the pattern and try a larger one. How about clothes? Hats? I can see this getting out of hand quickly! It really was a fun project. I found the key to this project was to stitch the outside edge with a short stitch before I cut the pieces out. It kept the knot from fraying or loosing shape before I was able to stitch the pieces together. Then just cut closely to the edge.
Next time, I’ll have my version of yoyo pincushion. Sorry, I couldn’t help but adapt a pattern I found! Shhh! These are surprise little gifts for my momma and sissy!
